In exercise of the powers conferred by clauses (b), (c), (f), (g), (iii), (l), (12), (13) and (w) of sub-section (2) of section 143 of the Bombay Prohibition Act, 1949 (Bom. XXV of 1949), and of all other powers enabling it in this behalf the Government of Maharashtra hereby makes the following Rules, the same having been previously published as required by sub-section (3) of the said section 143, namely:—
1. Short title Extent शीर्षक आणि व्याप्ती
These Rules may be called the Maharashtra Manufacture of Beer and Wine Rules, 1966.
2. Definitions व्याख्या
In these Rules, unless the context otherwise requires,—
- "Act" means the @Bombay Prohibition Act, 1949@;
- "Beer" means any liquor prepared from malt or grain with or without the addition of sugar and with hops and includes ale, porter and stout;
- "bottling" means transfer of manufactured beer or wine into bottles, casks or kegs for final removal from a brewery or, as the case may be, a manufactory and includes rebottling and refilling;
- "bottling room" means that portion of a brewery or manufactory which is set apart for carrying out bottling operations;
- "brewery" means a building or place where beer is manufactured and includes every place there in where beer is stored and whence it is issued;
- "Brewery Officer" means the Prohibition and Excise Officer appointed for the purpose of supervising the operations in a brewery;
- "Chemical Analyser" means the 2[Director, Haflkine Institute, Bombay]2 or Director, Vhsantdada Sugar Institute, Pune or any other officer appointed by the State Government as Chemical Analyser for the purpose of these rules;
- "cooler" means any vessel into which worts are passed to be cooled, and includes a refrigerator;
- "Copper" means any vessel in which either worts or water is boiled or heated in the course of brewing;
- 3"Craft wine" means wine manufactured by fermenting juice of fruits or flowers or banana (classified as stem) or rice without addition of sugar or jaggery, the fermentation being produced principally by the yeast naturally present on the skin of fruit or added externally, without addition of external alcohol or synthetic flavours and having, alcoholic strength not exceeding 42 % of proof spirit.3
- "fermenting vessel" means any vessel in which worts or raisins or fruits are fermented;
- "finished store room" means that portion of a brewery or manufactory which is set apart for the storage of finished beer or wine in sealed bottles or other receptacles;
- "Form" means a form appended to these Rules;
- "gravity" means the proportion which the weight of a liquid bears to that of an equal bulk of distilled water, the gravity of distilled water at 60°F, being taken to be 1000°;
- "hopback" means any vessel into which worts are run after boiling in order to remove the spent hops;
- "licence" means a licence granted under these rules;

**(a) अधिनियम** — मुंबई दारूबंदी अधिनियम, १९४९ हा मुख्य कायदा आहे जो या नियमांना आधार देतो.
**(b) Chemical Analyser (रासायनिक विश्लेषक)** — हाफकिन इन्स्टिट्यूट (मुंबई) किंवा वसंतदादा शुगर इन्स्टिट्यूट (पुणे) मधील संचालक, किंवा राज्य शासनाने नियुक्त केलेला अधिकारी जो दारूचे रासायनिक परीक्षण करतो.
**(c) Compounding (संयुग करणे)** — मद्यार्कात रंग किंवा सुवास (किंवा दोन्ही) जोडून सेवनयोग्य मद्य बनवणे.
उदा., व्हिस्की किंवा रम तयार करणे.
**(d) Distillery Officer (आसवनी अधिकारी)** — दारूबंदी विभागाचा अधिकारी जो distillery मधील काम पहारेदारी करतो.
**(e) Excise supervision (शुल्क पर्यवेक्षण)** — राज्य शासनाच्या अधिकृत कर्मचाऱ्यांकडून आसवनी किंवा मद्यनिर्माणीच्या सर्व कामांवर नियंत्रण ठेवणे.
**(f) Fermentative base (किण्वन मुख्य घटक)** — मळी, म्हवराची फुले किंवा साखर असलेला पदार्थ ज्यापासून दारू बनवली जाते.
**(g) Form (नमुना)** — या नियमांच्या शेवटी दिलेले application form किंवा अन्य नमुने.
**(h) Licence (परवाना)** — या नियमांनुसार सरकारने दिलेली परवानगी दारू बनवू किंवा विक्रय करू शकण्याची.
**(i) Licensee (परवानाधारक)** — ज्या व्यक्तीकडे licence आहे.
**(j) Liquor room (मद्य कक्ष)** — मद्यनिर्माणीतील तो विशेष कक्ष जेथे सीलबंद बाटल्यांमध्ये तयार दारू साठवली जाते.
**(k) Manufactory (मद्यनिर्माणी)** — आसवनी परिसराचा तो विभाग जेथे सेवनयोग्य दारू बनवली जाते. त्यात मद्य कक्ष आणि दारू जारी करण्याचे सर्व स्थान समाविष्ट.
**(l) Manufactory Officer (मद्यनिर्माणी अधिकारी)** — मद्यनिर्माणीतील कामांवर देखरेख करणारा दारूबंदी अधिकारी.
**(m) Potable liquor (सेवनयोग्य मद्य)** — ब्रँडी, व्हिस्की, रम, जिन किंवा आसवन/संयुग प्रक्रियेद्वारे बनवलेली कोणतीही दारू.
**(n) Spirit (मद्यार्क)** — शुद्ध/रेक्टिफाईड मद्यार्क (परिष्कृत दारू) जिसे आणखी संयुग करून पीण्यायोग्य दारू बनवते.
**(o) To reduce (कमी करणे)** — शुद्ध पाणी जोडून मद्यार्काची ताकद कमी करणे विहित स्तरापर्यंत.
**(p) Spirit room (मद्यार्क कक्ष)** — मद्यनिर्माणीतील शुद्ध मद्यार्क साठवण्याचा विशेष कक्ष.
**(q) Wash (धुवण)** — किण्वन करणाऱ्या घटकाला पाणी मिळून तयार साखरयुक्त द्रावण जेथे किण्वन सुरू झालेले आहे (yeast मिळवल्यानंतर).
**(r) Washback (धुवण पात्र)** — धुवणाला किण्वनात ठेवण्याचे मोठे पात्र/टाकी.
**(s) Wort (वॉर्ट)** — किण्वन करणाऱ्या घटकाला पाणी मिळून तयार साखरयुक्त द्रावण, परंतु किण्वन अद्याप सुरू झालेले नाही.
