Import / Export Permit — Application for Bringing Liquor into / out of Maharashtra

How to apply for an import or export permit for bringing liquor into Maharashtra or sending it to another state.

Moving liquor across Maharashtra state borders requires an import permit (for inbound) or export permit (for outbound). These are issued by the Excise Department and must accompany every consignment.

1. Identify the need: import = bringing liquor from another state into Maharashtra; export = sending Maharashtra-produced/stored liquor to another state.
2. Apply at the District Excise Office or the Excise Commissioner's office depending on the type and volume.
3. Fill the import/export permit application: applicant details, source state, destination state, brand, quantity, vehicle details.
4. Attach: copy of your licence, invoice, source-state permit if applicable.
5. Pay the applicable permit fee via GRAS.
6. Collect the import/export permit before the consignment moves.
7. Ensure the permit accompanies the consignment at all times.
8. On arrival/dispatch, note the permit details in your stock register.
9. Retain a copy for audit and inspection purposes.
