What Changed:

The Maharashtra Government has classified a total of 4,926 regular (sanctioned) posts in the State Excise Department into permanent and temporary categories. Posts that have existed for more than three years (3,838 posts) are classified as 80% permanent (3,034 posts) and 20% temporary (804 posts), in accordance with Finance Department guidelines dated 21.06.2006 and 28.02.2026. The remaining 1,088 newly created posts (established vide GR dated 31.07.2025) remain entirely temporary as they have not completed three years of existence. Additionally, all 1,892 temporary posts (804 + 1,088) have been granted an extension from 01.03.2026 to 31.08.2026 under the authority granted to administrative departments by the Finance Department.
